“Are you Gru?”

“Are you Gru?”, Zarah YELLED at every single house we went by.

So, Halloween has just passed, and I’m going to tell you what I did! After school, Mackenzie came to my house, and we got ready. She wore overalls and a yellow top, black gloves, sneakers and science goggles. I wore the same thing, except my overalls had a skirt for some reason, I didn’t wear gloves, but I had a teddy. You have probably guessed by now, we were minions! Then Zarah showed up, (25 minutes late, may I add). She was wearing the same, except she had a weird yellow hair hat, and used my ukelele. Mackenzie was Kevin, Zarah was Stewart, I was Bob. We grabbed our buckets and set out to find Gru!

We roamed the streets, grabbing lollies here and there…

BUT WE NEVER FOUND GRU! 🙁

When we got home, and they got picked up, I counted my lollies. I got 89 (after I ate most of them on the way of course 😉 ) Then, I ate dinner, I had a shower, and before bed, my mum, brother, and I sung happy birthday to my dog, because she turned 1!

Blogging task #6

Okay, so this is my third time writing about this book, but yesterday we finished it, and the ending was CRAZY!!!  Title is “Dragon Skin” and it is by Karen Foxlee. It is a mix of fantasy and realism. You can read the actual book or, be lazy (like we were) and listen to the audio book.

It is about a girl called Pip, who is around 11 years old and her mum blames herself for getting into a serious relationship with Matt. He controls everything, drinks heavily, wants Melissa (Pip’s Mum) all to himself, and is starting to get suspicious, as Melissa and Pip plan their escape. It has many flashbacks to one of her old friends Mika, who was in a similar situation. His mum shipped him off to live with his great grandma in Mount Isa, where Pip lived. The rest of the story took place I think after almost a year.

Pip found a baby dragon and felt a connection. She made it her mission to help it grow, but her inner dragon also grew…

I’m not going to tell you the ending, so you can go and listen to, or read it.

Mr Hope chose this book to level up our understanding and make us work harder because he set the standards higher. It was a really deep book, and I know this author will go on to do great things. I really hope that she makes a second book or makes it a series. If she did, I would absolutely buy it and read it over and over. I can’t recommend it enough.

More dragons! 🐉

Ok, so I told you we were making dragons but were done now! So, we started with plan, and you can see that in a sec. Then we mapped out what materials we were using. Then we collected them and brought them back to school. I used a six pack egg carton for the base of the head, and a bit of paper towel roll for the snout. I used some milk bottle tops for eyes, and Mackenzie made some paper cones for horns. I also poked holes beneath the snout and inserted screws as fangs. I used more paper towel roll for the neck. I used one of those apple crates, upside down for the body and corks for the legs. More paper towel rolls for the tail and I had a few screws, cogs and necklace chains scattered around. For wings I used paper and some wire. We had an hour or two each day for around two weeks where we could make and add to them. Finally we could paint them and add finishing touches. My original legs were ment to be pegs and springs, but they weren’t sturdy enough.

Here is a comparison between my plan and final result. (Spoiler, they’re VERY similar!)

Plan…

Result!

RAWR *fire breath*

RAWR…

I’m a dragon… and so is pretty much my whole term.

We kick things of with studying a book called, Dragon Skin, by Karen Foxlee. It is a story about a girl named Pip/Pippa who lives with her mum and her abusive boyfriend, Matt. They try to escape his controlling behaviour by running away to Pip’s grandparents’ house, in Townsville. There are many flashbacks to the before times, where Pip had a loyal friend and her mum could have her own identity. Somewhere along the way, Pip finds a baby dragon and makes her mission’s purpose, to protect Lil Fella. (That’s the dragon’s name, by the way)

Keeping the theme of dragons, we are also creating dragons with bits and bobs from at home. What’s cool about it is that you can use your IMAGINATION… They are all different shapes and sizes, Justin’s dragon can fit on Mackenzie’s, Mackenzie’s dragon can fit on top of mine, and mine can fit on Anabiya’s dragon.

And to top it off, our amazing art teacher joined in by thinking up a project where we use a glass eye and clay to make the surrounding area of the eye and scales.

Ok bye!

JUSTICE FOR BLUE!!!

It was the one day a year where kids divide into teams and compete head-to-head for the title of… WINNING FACTION (and there was also most improved, but we’ll worry about that later…) Anyways, year 5 started of the day with CHICKEN RELAY, where green unfortunately won. 🙁 Next, we went to flag races. It was intense but blue won. JUSTICE FOR BLUE!!! After that it was time for leader ball! (When I was the leader, I did a throw that was like five meters too far, and then on the next throw I hit someone on the back of their head) Yeah so red won that section. Then we went to tug o’ war. For some reason it was a 4 way rope which was a bit awkward 😬. Another day I found out that the sports captains got out the wrong rope. Red and yellow tied in first for that, but it’s okay.(😳😑😬😁😭😭😭)We then moved on to… DUN, DUN, DUUUUUUUUN hurdles. UGH! But it was fine because blue won… JUSTICE FOR BLUE!!! Then it was the final event… passball! It felt like an hour but it was only ten minutes, and then… red won. Lastly it was sprints then they announced the most improved faction… RED. Then the moment you’ve all been waiting for…

“I think we’re all just trying to get home.” Said the mole.

“I think we’re all just trying to get home.” Said the mole. What does this mean? I think it means something along the lines of, everyone wants to be at home and safe, and everything we do is to have that feeling of being sheltered and protected.

Ok. That’s it. The end. You can go there’s nothing left. Seriously. Go. Bye bye.

BREAKING NEWS….

It was your average Thursday evening, but some thing felt off… then I realised my flashy, pink, heart sunnies were missing. The reporters rushed to the scene and investigators started interrogating. They started with my brother, known to crime but he insisted he wouldn’t be caught dead with them. After a disappointing first suspect they moved on to my mother. It took tough tactics and bribes but all she had to say was, “Honey set the table for dinner, we have visitors! Also it’s a bit rude to stroll into someone’s house and shine lights in their eyes.” Then the moved on to the (not so lucky) last suspect… me. Of course it wasn’t me but they wouldn’t give it up. Then, during my questioning, out of the corner of my eye, I saw my dog Andi, innocently and happily munching on the remains…

FLASH…………………..

Boom…Flash…LIGHTNING! Lightning like the Lightning Carnival. The Lightning Carnival is when most of the year 5’s and 6’s from, I think 9 different schools come together and play sports against each other. Those sports are: Girls and Boys Soccer, Rugby, Netball, AFL and Modcrosse. Mackenzie and I played Modcrosse, Mack was a defender and I was goalie, but a few times I was an attacker. We won 3 games out of 8 and came 5th out of 8 overall. But just then, out of nowhere during our 5th match we were, SOAKED, SOPPING and DRENCHED. Our hands were numb and slippery, it was near impossible to hold our sticks, despite that our division A Netball team came out on top, with a winning streak of UNDEFEATED, and held the trophy. Our footy team was also undefeated until the last round, when they got absolutely SMASHED.

And that’s all for now, byeeeeee

Even more story starters!

I’m back with more words!

This week they are… screech, balmy, officer, and buffoon. Let’s go!                          Screech: That screech, I couldn’t get over it, it was one to make your blood run cold…                                                                                                                                      Balmy: After everything that had happened those last few days, the weather was way too calm and balmy. Something was coming…                                            Officer: The officer served his life, so it was my turn to serve mine…                          Buffoon: The buffoon didn’t know what he was dealing with, he had a life in his hands…

Okay, done-ski bye bye 🙂
